Lidl Hungary has expanded its operations with the launch of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, backed by a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to about €162 million. This facility, the largest of its kind for Lidl in Hungary, is set to service approximately 70 stores across the region.
Spanning more than 83,000 square meters, the logistics hub has already generated over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees soon. It boasts 194 loading docks and incorporates a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated area. Emphasizing sustainability, the center is equipped with energy-efficient systems, including a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar array and a mechanism that recycles waste heat from the refrigeration units to provide underfloor heating.
In addition to its operational features, the facility includes a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green space designed to enhance the local environment. The logistics center is projected to play a crucial role in fortifying Lidl’s supply network across the country, with an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods expected to be dispatched daily.
Lidl’s presence in Hungary currently includes 220 stores, with nearly 60% of its products sourced from local suppliers. The establishment of this new center is a strategic move to support the company’s ongoing expansion and to bolster its domestic market operations, ensuring more efficient and sustainable distribution processes.
